About

One of the first explorers to the Sutton area was Charles Throsby, who wandered through in 1820 looking for the Murrumbidgee River.

The village was first surveyed in 1853 and when gold was discovered 30 years later, the population soared.

Traditionally, the Sutton area has been dependent on horses, cattle and sheep. However, in recent years the region has become home to a bakery, alpaca and deer farms, wineries and olive groves.

Sutton is an attractive destination for the day tripper based in the nation’s capital, while its proximity to Canberra has made it a popular choice for those looking to relocate.

Be sure to visit Tulip Top Gardens between mid-September and mid-October. The 10 acre garden of stunning tulips and other spring flowers create a spectacular display.
