Award-winning landscape artist Peter Watts will open a solo exhibition at Suki & Hugh Gallery in Bungendore on Saturday 27 March 2021.
A finalist in the 2021 Glover Prize, Peter is highly regarded for his paintings which are influenced by the landscapes of Central Victoria and South
Eastern Australia.
Depicting vivid cloudscapes and spectacular shifts in light and shade, Peter’s fascination for sky watching is evident. Rendered in acrylic on linen, Peter creates enthralling atmosphere and movement within landscape scenes that are classic Australian.
His palette expertly depicts the ‘wide brown land’ and threatening skies which seem to extend on forever. The familiar details of settlements, rusted sheds and even chimney smoke are comforting against the dominance of the great and powerful skies. There is a wonderful tension between these
elements which is further amplified by the contemporary compositions.
