The Autumn market garden on a small urban farm can be a busy place. Preparations for winter are beginning and the last of the summer fruit and vegetables are in abundance ready for harvest. In cold climate Australia this is when tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, peppers and chili plants are producing at top capacity. This is the time to plant and nurture January plantings for the winter season and get the poultry (chickens, geese and ducks) ready for the cooler weather ahead.
The day also offers a slow food cafe serving a modest “garden to plate” menu of all the produce they have available. This includes light cafe meals and snacks created from their vegetables and preserves, table poultry and their eggs, which many customers regard as the best eggs you will ever taste. French press coffee and tea pot tea are available by the cup.
