About this event

Christmas is a special time of year when friends and family come together, give thanks and celebrate. So why not do it twice a year?

Christmas in July will be back in 2023 on Saturday 8th July at the Queanbeyan Showground with all the delights of a mid-year Christmas gathering and we want you to be there.

Enjoy the premier Christmas in July event in Canberra and Queanbeyan, complete with over 100 unique market stalls, belly-filling foods and the Caroloke competition (Carols… Karaoke… See what we did there?), as well as other on-site competitions and activities from Christmas decorating competitions to photos with Santa, dedicated kids’ play area complete with an outdoor obstacle course, a jumping castle, rides and much more.

Congratulations to the winners of the on-site competitions of Christmas in July 2022 – the Caroloke Competition, the Christmas Decorating Challenge, Christmas Lolly Guessing Competition and the lucky registered attendees’ draw winners.

This year, Christmas in July is back and better than ever with over 100 unique market stalls, belly-filling foods and plenty of fun and games on offer for all of the family from onsite competitions to obstacle courses, jumping castles, rides and more. Make sure to register your attendance to go into the draw to win one of three vouchers to one of the region’s Christmas themed shops. Please note, if you have mobility concerns or sensory issues, or are uncomfortable around large crowds, you can access the event one hour before official opening time by ticking the “sensory hour” box in the registration form.

Register for Caroloke Competition

The highlight of this year’s Christmas in July event is the brand new Caroloke Competition. This is your chance to get up on stage to perform your favourite Christmas Carol either individually, as a duet or in a group. The judges’ favourite performances will be awarded with prizes from local businesses.

Christmas Decorating Challenge

Do you have a flair for cake decorating? Do you love the challenge of putting together a gingerbread house? Then this competition is for you! As part of this year’s Christmas in July event, you can compete for the title(s) of Best Decorated Christmas Cake and Best Decorated Gingerbread House.

Both competitions have five categories:

  • Youth (<12 yrs)
  • Teenager
  • Adult
  • Senior (>55 yrs)
  • Overall winner

There will be amazing prizes from local businesses for the winner in each category.

Faqs

The event starts at 10am with entertainment on the main stage. Early access is available for those with mobility concerns or sensory issues from 9am – 10am.

Tickets are free of charge, but we encourage everyone to register their attendance through the registration form on this page. By registering your attendance, you can go into the draw to win one of three vouchers to one of the region’s Christmas themed shops.

By ticking the ‘sensory hour’ box upon registering your presence, you will receive an email confirmation which will allow you to access the event one hour before the official opening time (9am – 10am). This time is dedicated to those with mobility concerns or sensory issues or anyone who is uncomfortable around large crowds. During this time, we will do our best to minimise the number of people on site, limit noise and offer parking close to the event.

There will be parking onsite for 300+ cars with allocated Disability Parking inside the Glebe Avenue entry at the closest possible point to the event.

Registrations for the Caroloke and Christmas Decorating Competitions have closed at noon on Fri 8th July.

Yes, there will even be a dedicated pet rest stop with seating and water.

Terms & Conditions – Caroloke Competition

  • Entry is free.
  • Only one entry per person whether you are an individual or in a group.
  • Categories are: Primary School, High School, Adults – Individual, Duet or Group.
  • There will be amazing prizes from local businesses for the winner in each category.
  • Your performance must be a Christmas Carol that is no longer than 3 minutes long.
  • Your performance must not contain any explicit language.
  • Please note, this is not a religious event.
  • Entrants must also not be professional singers. If you are a professional singer, please contact the events team on 0481 007 012 to book your performance.
  • Registrations close Friday 8th July 2022 at midday.

Terms & Conditions – CHRISTMAS DECORATING CHALLENGE

  • All entries can be dropped off at the Queanbeyan Showground on Friday 8th July 2022 between 4:30pm and 6:30pm.
  • You can only enter once in each category. i.e. 1 x Christmas Cake & 1 x Gingerbread House in your age group.
  • Cakes and gingerbread houses must not exceed 30cm in height, width and length.
  • All care will be taken while on display but we will not be responsible for any damages.
  • Cakes & gingerbread houses will be judged on decoration only.
  • All entries will be judged on Friday evening 8th July 2022 and winners will be announced at midday on the main stage on Saturday 9th July 2022.
  • All entries will be on display at the event in the building behind the Grand Stand.
  • A photo will be taken of the winners and their creations for promotional material.
  • Collection of yours entry can be done from 3pm to 5pm on Saturday 9th July unless previously organised with the QPRC events team.
