Christmas in July
A Winter Dream
Tickets to Christmas in July event are available here
A typical southern hemisphere Christmas is about summer cocktails, seafood, cool attire, water fights and backyard cricket – a day so good you almost wish it happened twice a year. Lucky for us Christmas will be here early with Christmas in July a Winter Dream coming to the Queanbeyan Showground on Sunday 7 July 2019.
Enjoy over 150 unique market stalls, taste bud satisfying foods and drinks and an exciting European Christmas atmosphere that is sure to be a magical day out and a small taste of what Christmas is like for our northern hemisphere neighbours. Check out the program here – there is something for everyone (even a designated area where our local wineries are available for tasting).
Santa’s elves have also been hard at work as Christmas just isn’t Christmas without a Christmas tree… So the elves have been working with the Christmas Emporium to create a romantic European-styled Christmas tree for one lucky kid to take home. To enter the draw to win this beautiful tree, grab a free ticket from here
The market is going to supply a never ending feast of Christmas inspired food (catering for a range of different diets i.e gluten free, vegetarians), gourmet treats and wine, handmade Christmas gifts, art displays, an area for little elves, rides and an outdoor obstacle course… and some serious snow (artificial kind so no worries about catching a cold). There will be entertainment from local buskers, dance performances by Bom Funk Dance studio and the amazingly popular Po boys.
This year the Christmas joy will be coming in oodles with the region’s first ever ‘Oodle Races’. Poodle cross breeds are welcomed in the categories of puppies to mature dogs, and all breeds can compete in the ‘best dressed Christmas dog’ competition. Take a photo with Santa Paws for a donation to local animal rescue groups.
Those wanting to flex their baking muscle are encouraged to enter the Christmas cake and Ginger Bread house competition. With attractive cash prizes for general entry, youth and male categories the competition is expected to be hotter than Christmas in the southern hemisphere – enter here.
Think you can kiss for a good cause? Well we need you to lock lips to raise money for HOME in Queanbeyan. Couples can register for $5.00 to be part of the (unofficial) world record attempt and receive a special kissing badge, a sprig of mistletoe.
The ‘Early Christmas Presence Pass’ is back by popular demand with pass holders able to access the event one hour before the official opening time – book your pass here. After feedback from the community we recognised that some people who have mobility concerns, sensory issues or who are uncomfortable around large crowds might be encouraged to join in if considerations were made. During this time we do our best to minimise the number of people on site, limit noise and offer parking close to the event.
Plan your travel
